Heather Gray-Newton

Heather Gray-Newton – www.heathergray-newton.co.uk – Heather is an expressive figurative painter, working with watercolour, oil, photography and more recently, clay. The process of making weaves between the computer environment where original photographic images are manipulated and the direct physical application of paint and building with clay. The two worlds of virtual and physical space are now intertwined and integral to modern life. Heather’s varied approach explores an interchange of thoughts and perception between our experience of these realities and the contrasts are grappled with. The mediated images can be themselves juxtaposed with drawing or a starting point for a watercolour or oil painting. Recent subjects include breath, water and light.
Heather has had work accepted into the National Open Art Exhibition, and won First Prize in the Stride Open Art Competition in 2010. She qualified in 2006 with a PG Dip in Painting and Drawing and an MA in Visual Arts at West Dean Collage, where she has recently become a short course tutor. Heather also has a First Class Hons Degree in 3/D Design and has worked with architects and as a graphic designer.
