T3R – Tom Robson

T3R Artist, www.t3rartist.co.uk, otherwise known as Thomas Edward Robson, is an artist intrigued by the process he works with. Having worked in the process of intaglio printmaking throughout his years in University of Chichester, graduating in 2013, T3R has experimented greatly with the process.

His current work uses fractal and digital imagery transferred onto solar etching plates into the usual practice of intaglio etching. This combined with the deeply textural collograph plates thrown into the mix, allows T3R to create new designs that introduce vigor and a contemporary style into the traditional process.

T3R is interested in the idea of the multiple, to which his process lends itself well in the form of editions. T3R uses this idea to form variable editions of his prints, which can be displayed together as a whole, giving importance to each print of the edition. There is also a larger encapsulating theme to T3R’s work. The idea of a centrifugal grid; a grid within the visual of the artwork, which suggests a continuation of the grid out of the picture frame and into the viewers space. This is a way of connecting up edition prints displayed together and involving the viewer in the artwork itself, putting them in the center of it. This is the idea that is currently pushing T3R’s exploration forward as he begins to try and establish himself within the art world.

T3R is also involved with community arts projects with Chichester Festival Theatre – Pass it on – and Pallant House Gallery’s community workshop programme.
